Book Club Monday

This week’s Book Club Monday choice is one that is next on my list, My Husband’s Wife: A Novel by Jane Corry.  This book has been labeled as “Winter’s Must Read Thriller”!!!!!!!!!!   The story goes like this:

When young lawyer Lily marries Ed, she’s determined to make a fresh start. To leave the secrets of the past behind. But then she takes on her first murder case and meets Joe. A convicted murderer whom Lily is strangely drawn to. For whom she will soon be willing to risk almost anything.

But Lily is not the only one with secrets. Her next-door neighbor Carla may be only nine, but she has already learned that secrets are powerful things. That they can get her whatever she wants.

When Lily finds Carla on her doorstep sixteen years later, a chain of events is set in motion that can end only one way.  Summary Amazon.com

Recipe Adapted from Listotic

4 chicken breasts
3/4 cup BBQ sauce
3/4 cup Sweet Orange Marmalade
2 TBSP Soy Sauce

Cut 3-4 chicken breasts into bite sized pieces and cook them in the cock pot on low for 2 hours.
While the chicken is cooking, mix together BBQ sauce, Marmalade and Soy Sauce until well blended.
After 2 hours drain the chicken juices from the crock pot and pour the sauce mixture in the crock pot with the chicken.  Cook on low for an additional 2 hours (you may need to add more time if the chicken is not cooked through).  The sauce thickens as it cools.

Serve with rice and broccoli on the side.

Flared Sleeves

The one trend I see that is still going strong is flared sleeves.
Whether it be on sweaters, blouses or dresses,
exaggerated sleeves are all around.
There are so many great options out there.
The flared sleeve top looks fabulous with the
cropped flare pant.  With all of the available options,
why not add one to your wardrobe.  You will be
happy that you did!!!

Book Club Monday

Happy President’s Day!!!  I hope you are enjoying this long weekend.  Today’s book club choice is one rich in American History. It is The Hamilton Affair, by Elizabeth Cobbs.  With all the hype of Hamilton of Broadway,  I really wanted to read more about the love story between Alexander and Elizabeth.  This New York Times best seller can be summarized below:

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the American Revolution, and featuring a cast of legendary characters, The Hamilton Affair tells the sweeping, tumultuous, true story of Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler, from passionate and tender beginnings to his fateful duel on the banks of the Hudson River.

Hamilton was a bastard and orphan, raised in the Caribbean and desperate for legitimacy, who became one of the American Revolution’s most dashing—and improbable—heroes. Admired by George Washington, scorned by Thomas Jefferson, Hamilton was a lightning rod: the most controversial leader of the new nation. Elizabeth was the wealthy, beautiful, adventurous daughter of the respectable Schuyler clan—and a pioneering advocate for women. Together, the unlikely couple braved the dangers of war, the perils of seduction, the anguish of infidelity, and the scourge of partisanship that menaced their family and the country itself.

With brilliantly drawn characters and an epic scope, The Hamilton Affair tells a story of love forged in revolution and tested by the bitter strife of young America.  REVIEW AMAZON.COM
