Book Club Monday

After a crazy couple of months, I am trying to get back on track with my own life and also with my blogging schedule.  I found an awesome book for this week's Book Club choice, Searching for Sylvia Lee by Jean Kwok.  This book not only was an NYT's instant best seller, it was one of Jenna's club pick on the Today Show AND it was named a most anticipated book by the NYT, Time, Marie Clare, Elle, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, The NY Post and soo many more!!!!  Here's the story:

It begins with a mystery. Sylvie, the beautiful, brilliant, successful older daughter of the Lee family, flies to the Netherlands for one final visit with her dying grandmother—and then vanishes.
Amy, the sheltered baby of the Lee family, is too young to remember a time when her parents were newly immigrated and too poor to keep Sylvie. Seven years older, Sylvie was raised by a distant relative in a faraway, foreign place, and didn’t rejoin her family in America until age nine. Timid and shy, Amy has always looked up to her sister, the fierce and fearless protector who showered her with unconditional love.
But what happened to Sylvie? Amy and her parents are distraught and desperate for answers. Sylvie has always looked out for them. Now, it’s Amy’s turn to help. Terrified yet determined, Amy retraces her sister’s movements, flying to the last place Sylvie was seen. But instead of simple answers, she discovers something much more valuable: the truth. Sylvie, the golden girl, kept painful secrets . . . secrets that will reveal more about Amy’s complicated family—and herself—than she ever could have imagined.
A deeply moving story of family, secrets, identity, and longing, Searching for Sylvie Lee is both a gripping page-turner and a sensitive portrait of an immigrant family. It is a profound exploration of the many ways culture and language can divide us and the impossibility of ever truly knowing someone—especially those we love. - Amazon.com

Elizabeth Chilla Designs

I first met Elizabeth a year ago and saw all of her incredible designs.  Elizabeth creates the most beautiful fancy monogrammed ponchos and wraps.  Her prices are sooo beyond reasonable and her designs are of the highest quality.  My first piece was a really cool heather grey poncho with a raspberry initial on initial 2 letter monogram.  Since then I have purchased a light grey ruffle wrap with a turquoise monogram and a really really cool camo wrap.  I have also purchased a bunch of gifts for friends and they have loved loved their ponchos and wraps and sent me photos of them wearing them all around the world!!!!   Elizabeth's items are so in demand that it took me forever to convince her to agree to a post.  She is sooooo busy fulfilling orders.  I am telling you.....you are going to LOVE all of her items...Elizabeth is working on her website but you can see some of her items HERE and she is always happy to answer questions and take special orders if you CONTACT HER.  As Elizabeth says, "A cape belongs in every woman's closet".

How chic is this blue and white wrap..perfect for summer!!!

I love the idea of a shrug with a royal monogram!!!!  I really like this color too!!!!

The pink and navy is one of my favs!!

You can even do three colors!!

Here are some monogram choices...I think that the circle one might be my next!!!

I am dying for this..it is so great looking and would be perfect for traveling!!!

Another great color combo and the monogram is so different..I love it!!!

The wide trim on this is so amazing!!!

Another great color and two tone monogram.....she will custom any piece exactly the way that you like!!!

Another wide trim with a very fancy monogram font!!!

Two wraps of similar color with very different monograms..giving each piece such a distinctive look!!!

You cannot go wrong with the white on white...a similar one was a gift for a very chic friend!!!!!

And if a monogram is not your thing, there are plenty of images you can choose from to make your wrap or poncho your very own!!!

Book Club Monday and An Event With A Celebrity Caterer

I first was introduced to Mary' Giuliani though her first book, The Cocktail Party.  A friend had given me a copy and I was hooked.  I loved reading about Mary's glamorous catering gigs for some of Hollywood's finest and her entertaining tips were quite clever.  Honestly some of the best I have heard.   When her second book, this week's Book Club Choice, Tiny Hot Dogs, a Memoir in Small Bites.  I was dying to get my hands on it.  I was invited to a bunch of Mary's book signings, this time around and I thought it would be a fun thing to bring Mary to Rye.  She will be here on Wednesday night for cocktails, a book signing and some entertaining tips!!!  RSVP and let me know if you can make it!!!!

From awkward schoolgirl to Caterer to the Stars, Mary Giuliani weaves together a collection of hilarious memories, from professional growing pains to her long journey to motherhood, never losing her sense of humor and her love for everyone's favorite party food, pigs in a blanket.
Mary's utterly unremarkable childhood was everything she didn't want: hailing from a deeply loving yet overprotective Italian family in an all-Jewish enclave on Long Island. All she wanted was to fit in (be Jewish) and become famous (specifically a cast member on Saturday Night Live). With an easy, natural storytelling sensibility, Mary shares her journey from a cosseted childhood home to the stage and finally to the party, accidentally landing what she now refers to as "the breakthrough role of a lifetime" catering to a glittery list of stars she once hoped to be part of herself.

Fresh, personal, and full of Mary's humorous, self-deprecating, and can-do attitude against all odds, you'll want to see where each shiny silver tray of hors d'oeuvres takes her next. You never know when the humble hot dog will be a crucial ingredient in the recipe for success, in building a business or simply making life more delicious. - Amazon.com

Weekend Real Estate Stalking

This week's Weekend Real Estate Stalking home is a beauty in Larchmont...I just love this house.  Its wrap around porch is gorgeous.   Even though the house is Victorian in style, it has such a great mix of modern touches and contemporary clean lines.  How gorgeous is the Kitchen?  I love the all white with the pop of black in the stove and center island legs!!!  Very Clever!!!!    For more information on this beautiful home, contact Nancy McCreery.
