Book Club Monday

Everyone is devastated today with the news that the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris was on fire.  Thankfully, I just heard that the 2 iconic towers were able to be saved and they will rebuild.  I thought that I would pick a book club choice that is set in the city of lights which also became an immediate best seller...This week's book is The Lost Girls of Paris: A Novel by Pam Jenoff.   Here is the summary:

1946, Manhattan

One morning while passing through Grand Central Terminal on her way to work, Grace Healey finds an abandoned suitcase tucked beneath a bench. Unable to resist her own curiosity, Grace opens the suitcase, where she discovers a dozen photographs—each of a different woman. In a moment of impulse, Grace takes the photographs and quickly leaves the station.
Grace soon learns that the suitcase belonged to a woman named Eleanor Trigg, leader of a network of female secret agents who were deployed out of London during the war. Twelve of these women were sent to Occupied Europe as couriers and radio operators to aid the resistance, but they never returned home, their fates a mystery. Setting out to learn the truth behind the women in the photographs, Grace finds herself drawn to a young mother turned agent named Marie, whose daring mission overseas reveals a remarkable story of friendship, valor and betrayal.

image thedomesticrebel.com

adapted from domestic rebel.com
  • 36 Birthday Cake Golden Oreos
  • 4 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 box (3.4 oz) French Vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup dry Funfetti cake mix (just the dry powder)
  • 4 cups Cool Whip (about 2 8-oz pkgs), divided
  • About ½ cup sprinkles

  1. Place 20 cookies in a gallon size resealable bag and begin crushing the cookies with a rolling pin or meat mallet until the cookies become coarse crumbs. Pour the cookie crumbs into a large bowl with the melted butter and toss to combine. Press into a greased 8 or 9-inch square baking dish, compacting them loosely in there. Set aside.
  2. Wipe out the bowl and add in the pudding mix, dry Funfetti mix and milk, whisking until combined and letting sit for 2 minutes. Add in one package (2 cups) of the Cool Whip and ¼ cup sprinkles, folding it in until combined. Carefully spread this mixture over the cookies in the pan.
  3. Spread the remaining Cool Whip over the top of the cake batter pudding layer.
  4. Crush the remaining cookies in another plastic bag until coarse crumbs as formed. Sprinkle the cookies over the top with the sprinkles. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours before cutting into slices to serve.

Book Club Monday

This week's book, Where The Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens, has been on my list for a while.  I saw some friends reading it over Christmas break and bookmarked it.  I finally got around to ordering it.  I think you are going to love it...here is the summary!!!

How long can you protect your heart?
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.
Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps. -

Style Stalking...Dining Room Inspiration

After hosting Thanksgiving last year, I think our largest one yet (with just about 40 people for dinner).  I was cleaning my dining room and by some random chance of bad luck, my glass dining room table on lucite base smashed in a thousand pieces.  I was devastated.  I felt like I was starting from scratch all over again.  I had no idea what to do since the table was such a focal point of the room.  I have worked with World's Away on tons of projects over the years and I did know they had a dining room table that would work for me.  I order it that same day and an embarked on a project to reinvent my dining room.  I had always wanted a metallic grasscloth paper in there, I just could not pull the trigger...BUT now I really had no excuse.  So I went to my inspiration dining room board on my Pinterest and went to work (I have included some of my favorite pins for you)...The wallpaper was put up the weekend that I went away with my book club group, back at the end of  January.  The table took a while to come in but it is finally here and perfect.  The room still needs a rug and I want to get a plant or two and maybe a gold sputnik chandelier,  but its really coming together.  I took a quick shot before I ran out to pick my daughter the other night...

And right now here is a peek at where we are....I think I am going to add some plants and I am still waiting on a rug.....

Book Club Monday

Sorry I am posting this soo late..I hope it goes out in time.....I just ordered the book, Daisy Jones and The Six..My book club is reading it this month.  I loved the story line and you know I love the name Daisy!!!!!  Here is the summary:

Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.
Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock ’n’ roll she loves most. By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things.

Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road.

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend.

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice. - amazon.com
