Oklahoma....Broadway Revival

Early this morning, the Tony nominations were announced...so this morning, I was scrambling trying to get you the best tickets to the shows that we nominated....the revival Oklahoma was nominated for 8 Tony, including Best Revival.  We have a bunch of tickets for the June 20th show at 7:00 in the Orchestra for $130.  These are going to go FAST so EMAIL to reserve your seat.
“How is it that the coolest new show on Broadway is a 1943 musical? Daniel Fish’s wide-awake, jolting, and altogether wonderful production of OKLAHOMA! is as stimulating and frightening—and as fresh—as last night’s fever dream. This is OKLAHOMA! for an era in which longstanding American legacies are being examined with newly skeptical eyes. This isn’t an act of plunder, but of reclamation. Astonishing.”
“OKLAHOMA! ripped into town like a brushfire: potent, illuminating, and rejuvenating. A theatrical blowout.”
“A revelation. A bold reimagining you might almost mistake this for a new work.”
“Grade: A.
A stunning and radical theatrical experience.”

Book Club Monday

I saw this week's book choice, The Girl He Use To Know by Tracey Garvis Graves and I bought it immediately.  I was really in the mood for a good old fashion hopelessly romantic love story.  Here is the summary:

Annika (rhymes with Monica) Rose is an English major at the University of Illinois. Anxious in social situations where she finds most people's behavior confusing, she'd rather be surrounded by the order and discipline of books or the quiet solitude of playing chess.
Jonathan Hoffman joined the chess club and lost his first game―and his heart―to the shy and awkward, yet brilliant and beautiful Annika. He admires her ability to be true to herself, quirks and all, and accepts the challenges involved in pursuing a relationship with her. Jonathan and Annika bring out the best in each other, finding the confidence and courage within themselves to plan a future together. What follows is a tumultuous yet tender love affair that withstands everything except the unforeseen tragedy that forces them apart, shattering their connection and leaving them to navigate their lives alone.
Now, a decade later, fate reunites Annika and Jonathan in Chicago. She's living the life she wanted as a librarian. He's a Wall Street whiz, recovering from a divorce and seeking a fresh start. The attraction and strong feelings they once shared are instantly rekindled, but until they confront the fears and anxieties that drove them apart, their second chance will end before it truly begins. - Amazon.com

Book Club Monday

Everyone is devastated today with the news that the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris was on fire.  Thankfully, I just heard that the 2 iconic towers were able to be saved and they will rebuild.  I thought that I would pick a book club choice that is set in the city of lights which also became an immediate best seller...This week's book is The Lost Girls of Paris: A Novel by Pam Jenoff.   Here is the summary:

1946, Manhattan

One morning while passing through Grand Central Terminal on her way to work, Grace Healey finds an abandoned suitcase tucked beneath a bench. Unable to resist her own curiosity, Grace opens the suitcase, where she discovers a dozen photographs—each of a different woman. In a moment of impulse, Grace takes the photographs and quickly leaves the station.
Grace soon learns that the suitcase belonged to a woman named Eleanor Trigg, leader of a network of female secret agents who were deployed out of London during the war. Twelve of these women were sent to Occupied Europe as couriers and radio operators to aid the resistance, but they never returned home, their fates a mystery. Setting out to learn the truth behind the women in the photographs, Grace finds herself drawn to a young mother turned agent named Marie, whose daring mission overseas reveals a remarkable story of friendship, valor and betrayal.

adapted from domestic rebel.com
  • 36 Birthday Cake Golden Oreos
  • 4 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 box (3.4 oz) French Vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup dry Funfetti cake mix (just the dry powder)
  • 4 cups Cool Whip (about 2 8-oz pkgs), divided
  • About ½ cup sprinkles

  1. Place 20 cookies in a gallon size resealable bag and begin crushing the cookies with a rolling pin or meat mallet until the cookies become coarse crumbs. Pour the cookie crumbs into a large bowl with the melted butter and toss to combine. Press into a greased 8 or 9-inch square baking dish, compacting them loosely in there. Set aside.
  2. Wipe out the bowl and add in the pudding mix, dry Funfetti mix and milk, whisking until combined and letting sit for 2 minutes. Add in one package (2 cups) of the Cool Whip and ¼ cup sprinkles, folding it in until combined. Carefully spread this mixture over the cookies in the pan.
  3. Spread the remaining Cool Whip over the top of the cake batter pudding layer.
  4. Crush the remaining cookies in another plastic bag until coarse crumbs as formed. Sprinkle the cookies over the top with the sprinkles. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours before cutting into slices to serve.
