Shaved Asparagus with Toasted Hazelnuts and Lemon Parsley Vinaigrette

Servings: 4

Ingredients

12 large asparagus spears, trimmed and peeled

¼ cup manchego cheese, grated plus a piece for shaving

¼ cup hazelnuts, toasted and coarsely chopped

2 lemons, juiced and zest

½ cup extra virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, coarsely chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

Combine lemon juice, zest, manchego and parsley in a small mixing bowl and slowly whisk in the olive oil until well blended. Season the vinaigrette with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

Working with one asparagus spear at a time, use a vegetable peeler to shave spears into long, thin shavings. The tips will snap off as the spears get thinner, add to the bowl. Drizzle vinaigrette over shaved asparagus, toss and coat. After plating garnish each salad with hazelnuts and shaved manchego. Serve and enjoy.

Uber Stylish Closets!!!

A couple of years ago, I turned a corner on my closet design.  I had a light fixture in my closet that caught fire.  NIGHTMARE!!!!  So it gave me the excuse I needed to really revamp how I used the space.  I don't have a huge closet.  For the size of my house its weird that the size of the master closets and bath are pretty underwhelming.  But over the years I have definitely  worked with what I have been given.  Back to the closet....My approach for this space was to really merchandise it.  It does not matter how big a closet is or how much storage space you have, if it always looks a mess, you will never be-inspired.  I really want to be inspired by my closet because I am so passionate about the things I choose to put in it.  Sooo I went about merchandising my belongings.  I really tryed to display them so that it was very easy to pick out an outfit and accessory each time I went to get dressed.  I had a small countertop installed and I had hooks installed above it all the way to the top of the ceiling.  I have decorative objects displayed on the countertop and necklaces displayed all up and down the wall.  I have a some beautiful framed watercolor artwwork from my favorite movie Grey Gardens and some vintage Chanel prints.  My handbags are displayed on decorative drapery tie backs.  So after working on this project for well over a year, to get it just so, my mom came to visit and she was surprised how different my closet looked.  All she said to me was "It looks just like a little Boutique".  Honestly I really don't know if she was saying that to be nice but I'll take it and every since the re-do I have a much easier time getting ready!!!!  Oh and I really do love love my closet now...

Here are the shoe cubbies I have (mine are white)...I love the artwork and lattice here. The use of the cake plate to hold perfume is brilliant!!!

Book Club Monday

I found the funniest book this week that I thought all of you would love.  The title alone caught my attention,  Just When You Are Comfortable In Your Skin, It Starts To Sag: Rewriting The Rules to Midlife. HA!!!  Here is the summary:

With the voice of a close friend, this clever and witty guide from bestselling duo Trisha Ashworth and Amy Nobile takes women through the new and sometimes challenging midlife phase, with chapters including:

- Redefining what beauty means after age 40... and that there is beauty after age 40!
- How to care for yourself when you're also caring for growing children and aging parents
- Navigating midlife relationships and dating (did someone say dating apps??)
- Discovering new career paths and new meaning in your life

Whether married, single, widowed, divorced, with children or without, at some point women inevitably ask the question, "What's next for me?" Here, they will find a road map for how to embrace and thrive in this new phase of life. With helpful quizzes, friendly advice, and inspiring quotes from women who have been there, this smart and engaging book gives readers the tools to turn a midlife crisis into a midlife opportunity. As seen on Oprah, Trisha and Amy share their own perspectives and experiences to bring clarity, guidance and support while reassuring readers they're not only on the right track... but that the best years are still to come. - Amazon.com

Book Club Monday

"I get by with a little help from my friends"....this is my motto and this is why I picked this weeks Book Club Monday choice,  Text Me When You Get Home: The Evolution and Triumph of Modern Female Friendship.  This title really spoke to me so I decided to share it!!!  Here is the summary:

"Text me when you get home." After joyful nights out together, female friends say this to one another as a way of cementing their love. It's about safety; but more than that, it's about solidarity.

From Broad City to Big Little Lies to what women say about their own best friends, the stories we're telling about female friendship have changed. What used to be written off as infighting between mean girls or disposable relationships that would be tossed as soon as a guy came along are no longer described like that. Now, we're lifting up our female friendships to the same level as our other important relationships, saying they matter just as much as the bonds we have with our romantic partners, children, parents, or siblings.

Journalist Kayleen Schaefer relays her journey of modern female friendship: from being a competitive teenager to trying to be one of the guys in the workplace to ultimately awakening to the power of female friendship and the soulmates, girl squads, and chosen families that come with it.

Schaefer has put together a completely new sociological perspective on the way we see our friends today, one that includes interviews with dozens of other women across the country: historians, creators of the most iconic films and television shows about female friendship (and Galentine's Day!), celebrities, authors, and other experts. The end result is a validation of female friendship that's never existed before. - amazon.com

La Ligne

Yesterday I heard 3 very impressive ladies speak about their company and their creativity....former Vogue Editors, Meredith Melling and Valerie Macaulay and Molly Howard, the former head of business at Rag and Bone.  Basically these fashionistas believed in the universal, classic, forever chic, appeal of the stripe.  So much so, they founded their company around this belief and thus around the stripe.  Everything they feature on their site has a stripe from everyday essentials, to statement pieces for special occasions.   And I have to say I am a believer.  Check out their site and you too will fall in love with stripes!!!!
