Restaurant North

  • Yesterday, my book club visit Restaurant North in Armonk NY.  It was a real treat. "Former Union Square Cafe Wine & Spirit Dir. Stephen Mancini and former Union Square Cafe Sous Chef Eric Gabrynowicz join forces again, but this time in Armonk, NY at the new Restaurant North".  It is a must try for the Westchester crowd.

Fashionable Friend Friday

This week's Fashionable Friend has an amazing eye for antiques.  She can pick out the most beautiful vintage jewelry, objects and furniture.  A couple of weeks ago, she showed me a vintage gold necklace with multiple 3d fish charms.  It was so gorgeous, I cannot stop thinking about it.  I hope she sells it to me for my collection (hint hint)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Here are some similar beauties.  More are available on First Dibs, Ebay and Etsy!  Enjoy!

Simply Eartha

Last night I was so lucky to be able to hear Kitt Shapiro, the only child of Eartha Kitt speak about her mother's legacy and the special relationship that they shared.  Kitt opened her heart to us about some difficult issues Eartha experienced being light skinned and not really fitting into the "white or black" category.  She spoke about traveling on the road as a young child and finally the sad last few days of her mother's life with Colon Cancer.  Kitt was straightforward, honest and very funny.  She started a lifestyle brand, Simply Eartha, to honor her mother legacy, based around words or sayings that Kitt was famous for.  She called these "Kittisms".  You can learn more about Kitt and Earta and see her beautiful products HERE

Historic Storm on the Way

Here in New York we are bracing for a "historic Blizzard" to hit our community.  YIKES!!  Not really sure exactly what that means but it doesn't sound good.  I thought I would share an AMAZING recipe with you to help wait out the storm.  It would be great to try this while you are homebound.  I heard making the meringue is tricky, so these next few days are the perfect time to practice!  I have a friend who makes this Pavlova for all our pot luck luncheons and it is OUT OF THIS WORLD.  The recipe is just too good not to share with my readers.  I am hoping that once you make it, it will help you to forget the disaster that is happening outside your windows!!!!!

Palm Beach Lifestyle

I travel back and forth to Florida to visit my family many times throughout the year.  I especially love Palm Beach and its tropical glamour.  There is nothing like fabulous Worth Ave.  The Palm Beach style is in a league of its own.  One Kings Lane is currently doing a sale titled "Palm Beach Polish" for the next week.  Here is the link:

First Significant Snow Storm

Today marks our first significant snow storm here in the New York area.  Though I would much rather be writing about the newest sandals or sunglasses, this post is a MUST.  Here are some wonderful boots to help you navigate the tundra outside your front door.  I was shocked to hear that the LLBean "Bean" boot, showcased, below was the hottest seller for the Holiday season and had a looooonnnngg back order date (like a May delivery!!).  That certainly brought me back to my high school/college days.  I guess it is true what once was old is new again.  Enjoy the snow!!!

A Signature Scent

Its so wonderful when someone has their signature scent.  A perfume they always wear.  Something introduces them as soon as they walk into the room.  All successful women had their signature scents, Coco Chanel had Chanel #5.  Estee Lauder had Youth Dew.  Jackie O wore Joy.  Madonna wears If and Fracas.  What will be your signature fragrance?A Signature Scent

First Outing of 2015

Today I am going on my first outing of 2015 to the Brandt Foundation in Greenwich, Ct. "The Brant Foundation Art Study Center, designed by Richard Gluckman, has a mission to promote education and appreciation of contemporary art and design, by making works available to institutions and individuals for scholarly study and examination. "  It is a gorgeous open space that is a must see if you are visiting this area.

Today's exhibit is called Deliverance Through an expansive selection of photographypaintingsculpturefilm, and mixed-media installationsDeliverance explores the work of an iconic group of New York artists who emerged during a distinct moment in American history – one marked by a growing skepticism of political and economic systems as well as a “crisis of confidence” that wounded the American spirit.  Drawing upon artistic explorations of mass media popularized in the 1960s and 1970s, Clark, Noland, Prince and Wool developed incisive artistic vernaculars that exposed the underbelly of American culture.  Their works engage with themes of sexuality, power, censorship, authenticity and the influence of mass media with unmatched candor and continue to influence artistic practice and dialogues worldwide.

Golden Globe Favorite

I know your inbox is probably flooded with photos of last night's Golden Globe looks.  I have been pouring through photos since 6am but my all time favorite look last night was J Lo.  I love everything about this.  Her hair is FLAWLESS.  The earrings FABULOUS.  The dress, shoes and bag.....PERFECTION.  I cannot wait to see her new movie "The Boy Next Door" which
comes to theaters on Jan. 23rd.

Fashionable Friend Friday

This weeks Fashionable Friend Friday post is a little late.  My fashionable friend was staying with me this weekend and we were having so much fun that my blog suffered.  The weekend was filled with so many fun activities, delicious meals, and long conversations about fashion.  We both agreed that the Gucci Loafer is BACK.  My friend favors the traditional styles while I prefer the newer funky ones.Fashionable Friend Friday
